Roger Federer made quick work of Ivan Dodig on Monday, keeping his Indian Wells title defence on track with a 6-3, 6-1 third-round victory over the 60th-ranked Croatian.
Federer needed just 61 minutes to seal the victory -- helped somewhat by Dodig's six double-faults, the last of which came on match point.
For a change, Federer had to face double break points on his very first service game, but he managed to save those & that pretty much was the only chance Dodig had to break Federer.
Federer managed to break Dodig in the 8th game as Dodig double faulted on 30-40 to give Federer a lead of 5-3. Federer on his 4th set point managed to serve out the set 6-3.
Federer then broke Dodig in the very first game of the 2nd set & it was clear from Dodig's body language that he looked De-moralized.
Dodig again got broken in the 3rd game as he double faulted once again at 30-40 to give Federer a lead of 3-0.
However, Federer felt a slightly stiff back on his service at 4-1 & his movement looked a wee bit slightly slow as compared to earlier. But, it didn't stop him from holding on for a 5-1 lead. Once again, Dodig double faulted on the break point to gift Federer the 2nd set 6-1 and the match 6-3, 6-1 in 61 minutes. This was Federer's 890th match win of his illustrious professional career.
As Federer said in the post match interview, "I felt a little something in my back at the end, I just have to check it out."
Also, it needs to be mentioned that Federer arrived two hours late for his post match press conference. As Federer stated in the presser, that he received treatment for his back and isn't too worried about the back.
Also, Federer when asked about whether he will be fit to play on Wednesday stated , "I too will be surprised if I am not fit to play on Wednesday especially as I have a 2 months break coming up."
Federer will have 48 hours rest as his 4th round match is scheduled on Wednesday to be played against the winner of Hewitt or Wawrinka.
