Update: On 28th December, 2013, Roger Federer's schedule has been officially released & Roger Federer won't be playing Davis Cup in 2014 & all the tournaments listed above are there in his schedule, only exception is Miami Masters, which has been added to the 2014 schedule.

See the whole schedule right here.

Disclaimer & some key points:

(i) This is just a proposed schedule, so, please don't make any travel decisions or to buy any tickets based on the information given here.

(ii) For Davis Cup, I took the help of all my Twitter, Facebook & G plus friends. 65% of people who replied me are not in favor or hope, that Roger Federer should skip Davis Cup in 2014, just like he did in 2013.

Will Roger Federer play Davis Cup in 2014? For a detailed discussion & a detailed poll on this, see this detailed post right here.

22% people want or hope that, Roger Federer should take a decision about playing Davis Cup in 2014, based on how he performs at Australian Open, 2014.

Though, as per my personal opinion, I don't see, Roger Federer playing at Davis Cup in 2014. Its hard to even think that he will commit to playing just for the 1st Round vs Serbia in February, 2014 without thinking or considering, will he able to play in the QF in April, 2014 or Semis in September, 2014 & Finals in November, 2014.

(iii) Regarding Rotterdam, we have been having a detailed discussion for almost 9 months now. As, you can see, almost 80% people were of the opinion that Federer won't be coming back to Rotterdam in 2014 & even Richard Krajicek(tournament director) confirmed that Federer won't be playing in Rotterdam in 2014, for details on that, click here.

(iv) Now, next big question is that, will we get to see Roger Federer playing at Miami Masters, 2014? Well, as we saw in 2013,

Federer is unlikely to play at Miami in 2014, because of the problems that he has had with IMG. So, I will be highly surprised if we get to see, Miami in his 2014 schedule. (& yes, I am really-2 surprised to see Miami Masters in his 2014 schedule).

(v) The next big question that many people from Brazil have asked me, will we get to see Roger Federer playing at Rio Open, 2014 (a new ATP-500 tournament) that will be making its debut at Rio De Janerio from 15th to 23rd February, 2014?

Rafa Nadal has already committed to play at Rio Open, but, as Federer will be playing at Dubai Open, which starts from 24th February, 2014, so, I don't see Federer playing at Rio Open, 2014.

The detailed ATP 2014 schedule/calendar is posted right here.

Please feel free to post your comments or any queries that you may have & I will try to answer it as soon as possible.

No MCCC?

Good question that. I need to add that Monte Carlo Masters is one of my favorite tourneys.

I had written a detailed article on whether Roger Federer should play at Monte Carlo in 2013 & we got a lot of votes on that as well, you can read it right here.

Update: On 28th December, 2013, Roger Federer's schedule has been released.

So, RF's official 2014 schedule is out & here is a screen shot of his 2014 calendar --------

As Roger grows older I feel it becomes increasingly important for him to manage his schedule more carefully so as to give himself the best chance of winning, or at least reaching the final stages in the ATP Tour tournaments he takes part in.

He needs to minimize risk of injury from over commitment and have planned rest and training blocks. For these reasons I would be relieved to see him not taking part in the Davis Cup in 2014

Roger hasn't played in Monte Carlo for a few years now. I wouldn't expect him to change things at this stage!

I agree with the entire proposed schedule Vibhu :) I had the exact same line-up in my head 100%.

Unlike others, my wish list would be to add Tokyo or Beijing before Shanghai but don't think it will happen. The Beijing surface seemed a bit quick this year to me which I think would favour him but it looks like Novak has locked up that tourney all for himself.

I'm not a proponent of him playing DC until he is absolutely fit, ready and in form. I'm with you on all of the omissions i.e. no Rotterdam, no Rio, no Miami, no Monte Carlo (which is 2nd on my wish list but will never happen), no Hamburg and no Gstaad.

And I know this is not for consideration for 2014 but in 2015 I would love it if Roger played Stuttgart to inaugurate a new grass tourney!

Although I just realized that in 2015 Stuttgart will move to the same week as Halle right? And he's obligated to play at Halle so I guess my wish won't come true :/

Well, regarding Tokyo, unfortunately, they don't have this much budget to have a contract with RF & regarding Beijing, they too are short on budget because of a contract with Nole & Rafa, so, it looks tough to even think that RF can play at Tokyo or Beijing.

& regarding Stuttgart, well, 2015 is quite far off & even Halle is getting converted to an ATP-500 tournament (from 2015).

Though, the schedule that I posted has 2 ATP-250 & Only 2 ATP-500 tourneys & may be, there's scope for 1 more ATP-500 tourney, but considering the back issues in 2013, I don't see him taking the risk of adding one more tourney in 2014.

Well, I agree with you about the initial schedule and I too think he will probably not change it. The gap between IW and Madrid is gigantic though so who knows. Tokyo, Beijing etc was just my wishlist that will never be a reality. And anyway, as long as he is healthy and manages to go deep in the list you currently have up there, that would be great. Can't wait till 2014!

ps- didn't know about Halle becoming an ATP 500! pretty awesome :)

I think if he think he is fit enough to play more matches , he should play the Davis Cup in January. Also I think he should participate the Miami Masters if he can solve his problem with IMG but if he decide to play the Davis Cup in March , he shouldn't play Miami to let him have more time to rest and practise. If he think he is very fit and he think he doesn't need to rest more now (2014) and just participate less tournament in 2015 , He should play Monte-Carlo too. But all these things just depends on his own feeling about himself physically. Everyone want to see him everyday on court, but it is impossible !!

Hey guys,

if i may put my two cents in here they are: I think that Roger could play DC 1st round and then simply skip the February, which would be appropriate after tough AO and possible DC.

At this stage of his career, where he doesn't has to proof anything to anyone, his priorities differ quite a bit from those of say Djoker or Delpo. As i imagine he's got two main priorities right now: have fun and stay healthy and most likely around these two things he will create his schedule. DC is a lot of fun for everyone who participates in it and February is a whole month to recover. I think that this solution would allow him to play IW and Miami in March, which gives him some edge later on in the season where he'll be more free to skip some other 1000 whenever he'll feel like it. As for Monte Carlo, let's not forget that Roger being Roger Federer can always wait and see how he'll feel after american hard court swing and take wild card as an option.

At the end let's just hope that his preparation will be just as good as it gets and he'll manage to avoid those nasty back problems, because one thing is for sure: Roger still has plenty of magic in him.

 Cheers from a newbie

Your RF's sweet schedule made me smile :).... Keeping full February off will be interesting, but, realistically, that is impossible because of Dubai Open :).

Though, there's a chance that he might play the 1st round vs Serbia as he isnt playing Rotterdam in 2014.

Also, its almost dead sure that he will play at Indian Wells, chances of playing at Miami Masters are one in a million (as I said above, because of issues with IMG).

Monte Carlo also looks tough, because of timing as the timing of Monte Carlo neither allows proper rest or training because after 2 weeks of Monte Carlo, we have the Madrid Masters & then Italian Open continuously.

i personally would like RF to play davis cup and either of Miami or Monte carlo. Miami looks almost impossible and only a remote chance for RF to play montecarlo . i just think its just too a bigger gap between INDIAN WELLS and Madrid masters..This year also Federer didn't have a great preparation for the clay court season, specially if you are knocked out of any masters tournament early then you are short of match practice for clay court and this gets magnified by not playing monte carlo.

Yes, he may play in Miami. He will have enough time for preparation for clay season even after Miami. Roger said he could've played more in 2013, so we may see him play in Miami.

I will be very-2 surprised if he plays in Miami, infact, I will pinch myself if Miami will be in his 2013 schdedule :)

Well, no, mate, Miami because of issues with IMG actually :). As I explained in my 1st post, Richard Krajicek has confirmed that Federer wont play at Rotterdam...

Yeah but I dont think so that Roger has some obligation towards Dubai Open anymore. Back in 2012 he didnt commit to play there (eventually he took a wild card). Regarding IMG stuff: I dont think that the conflict is in anyone's favor. It doesn't serve fell the tournament as no one brings more cash flow than Roger Federer and it certainly doesn't serve well Roger himself as he's associated with some controversy and it limits his schedule options. I'm pretty sure that both sides can figure it out in a civilized way.

And so the Dubai vs Miami dilemma may eventually go down to other more important factors hopefully. Like scheduling preparation for clay court season, preferable surface, building momentum etc.

Will be great if he plays Monte Carlo, but, the same thing we discussed in 2013 also & then also, he decided against playing @ MC.
