Set-1

The Swiss Maestro got off to a slow start as the Aussie had three break points in the opening game of the 1st set. Federer managed to save those break points & that was the only moment of the match, when Matosevic was ahead of Federer.

Federer broke the Aussie's service in the 2nd game after Matosevic double faulted. The Swiss then had the insurance break as he raced to a 4-0 lead.

Federer comfortably served out the set in the 7th game winning 6-1 in 27 minutes.

Overall, Federer's game had the fluency & he service looked much better especially in the 1st set.

Here are the 2nd set stats ----

After a slightly hesitant start, in which Roger had to claw his way back from nearly going a break down in the first game, he was then on a roll, winning the match 6-1 6-1

He certainly seems to have adjusted well to the new racquet, serving an impressive 7 aces in the first set, 2 in the second and delivering some powerful shots across court from the baseline.

It was good to see Mirka there with the twins too. She looked radiant and it was so sweet to see that all three Federer girls were in similar outfits! :)

It is interesting that sometimes it appears that Roger does not immediately look to see where he has hit the ball, it is as if he lets his gaze linger on the point where he hit the ball before turning to see where it went. Probably only split seconds caught by a still photograph.

I think this wasn't much of a challenge for Roger - easy pickings.  Difficult to see how well he played in such a short time.  A win is a win though.  I was more impressed with his first match where I thought he looked very sharp, but he certainly reacted well today to his poor start.  As it's the first time these two have played together, and the first time I've seen Matosevic, it's also difficult to know if he's any better than he was today on a different day in different circumstances (Matosevic that is).  I'm looking forward to the match with Chardy, though it means I'll have to get up very early :-(

Thanks to all for the reports and the pics.  I'm now going to watch yesterday's doubles which I still haven't seen and which I hear was great fun.

Another highlights package .... Look out for the twins applauding at around 1.20min, then again around 3.35min when Myla Rose (?) appears to have a bit of a scream attack :D :)

Marinko Matosevic looked exhausted or suffering with the humidity from his body language and did receive treatment for a problem on his shoulder / neck so could have been in pain too.
