The ground staff at the All England Club are taking every precaution possible to ensure their world-famous grass courts are in immaculate condition for this summer's Wimbledon championship and London 2012 Olympic tennis tournament.

The courts at SW19 will face an unprecedented amount of play this summer with two major tournaments taking place during the summer.
And with just three weeks between the two tournaments, staff at the All England Club have employed various techniques to keep the grass in tip-top condition, including an electrified fence.

Former world number one Dinara Safina revealed the news about the fence via her Twitter page, where she posted a photo saying simply, "Don't touch it!!!!"

The Russian star, who will miss the Olympic tournament due to a back problem, said, "I thought it was a joke but it is electric and it is to stop everyone from walking on the grass so that it grows as strong as possible.

"There is only three weeks between the competitions and that will be a very tight time for the grass to recover."

Despite a nationwide hosepipe ban, Wimbledon will be allowed to use hosepipes and sprinklers on their famous grass courts, but the All England Club will be reducing the amount of plants around the courts to help cut back on water usage.

"We are revising our planting schemes, with drought-resistant plants and some reduction in hanging baskets inside and outside the grounds," said Wimbledon chairman Philip Brook.

"Wimbledon this year will be a little less colourful than usual but we think it's the right thing to do."

Chances of such a lush green court this year is very minimal.
