BERNARD Tomic admitted laziness cost him a golden Wimbledon opportunity, declaring it was a prime factor in a hollow first-round defeat to Belgian David Goffin.
The youngest quarter-finalist at the All England Club since Boris Becker in 1985, Tomic tumbled to a 3-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 loss vs the 21 year old David Goffin.
He was crushed post-match, having twice been twice reprimanded for racquet abuse and jeered from court two.
The Queenslander admitted he had not been training hard enough.
"To be honest, I haven't been really working hard the last two months," Tomic said.
"Just been up and down. To be honest, the effort that's been costing me this tournament and the past two months has been probably my lack of effort.
"So I've got to get back on that roll."
Tomic said there were other issues involved in the defeat, but would not disclose them.
Here is a pic of Tomic breaking his racket, will he ever be able to control himself?
