If you reached this article while searching Novak Djokovic has regained No. 1 & Roger Federer is now No. 2 on 5th November, 2012, read how the ATP Points & rankings look like as of today & how will the Rankings change after World Tour Finals, 2012, see this detailed write-up here :::::::::::

http://www.rogerfede...d-atp-rankings/

If you reached this article to search if Roger Federer will be able to complete 300 weeks at ATP No. 1 or will Novak Djokovic re-gain No. 1 ranking after China Open , Beijing 2012 or after Shanghai Masters, 2012, go straight to this new article -------

http://www.rogerfede...-tennis-player/

As all of you are aware that London 2012 Olympics are starting from 27th July, 2012.

The Mens & Ladies Tennis competition starts from 28th July, 2012 & here is the tentative schedule.

2012 londonnnnnnnnnnnn.jpg

The Mens singles competition promises to be even more interesting as the Olympics 2012 will decide if Roger Federer can become the first man on the planet to be No. 1 for 300 weeks or will Novak Djokovic will regain No. 1 after Olympics 2012?

The other big question is will Rafael Nadal or Andy Murray's ranking improve if they manage to win Olympics 2012's gold medal?

For the answer to all these questions, please read on.

Here is the latest ATP points of the the Top 8 as last announced on July 16th, 2012

Posted Image

Before, we go any further, you need to be aware, how many points are at stake. I explained that in details, here.

As you can clearly see, every one participating will have a net gain, even if they lose in the first round.

So, that practically means, only Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic can remain No. 1 after Olympics, 2012, even, if they were to lose in the first round of London Olympics.

So, even if Rafa Nadal or Andy Murray win the Gold Medal & Both Federer & Djokovic lose in first rounds, still Rafa Nadal & Andy Murray will remain at their No. 3 & No. 4 respectively.

As you can clearly see from the table above,

(i) No points will be deducted.

(ii) Rafa Nadal & Andy Murray will stay at their respective rank even if they win the Gold Medal.

For Roger Federer to retain his No. 1 ranking :::

(i) Federer needs to ensure that he needs to beat Djokovic in the finals, if they both reach.

(ii) All other permutations & combinations are quite clear from my table above.

Interestingly, if Roger Federer loses in 1st Round & Djokovic loses in 3rd round, still Roger Federer will retain his No. 1 ranking.

For Novak Djokovic to regain No. 1 ATP Ranking post OLympics 2012 :::

His sure-shot chance of regaining the No. 1 ATP Ranking is only if he manages to beat Roger Federer in the finals, else, as you can see from the table, how tough, it will be for him to get ahead of Roger Federer in the ranking points post Olympics, 2012.

Now, that Roger Federer has won the silver medal & Andy Murray has won Gold medal at London 2012 Olympics, as I explained in my calculation sheet, Roger Federer will remain No. 1 in the rankings to be announced later today.

While, Andy Murray will remain No. 4 even after winning the Gold medal...
