At last, he had completed the Grand Slam, joining such greats like, Rod Laver, Fred Perry, Don Budge, Roy Emerson, Andre Agassi, and most recently, Rafael Nadal. Quite an elite club to be apart of!

The French Open was the one Grand Slam that alluded Roger Federer for years. He reached the final three times (2006, 2007, & 2008), yet could not defeat Rafael Nadal. In 2009, the dream came true. The Coupe des Mousquetaires went to Roger. Many critics didn't take much heed to it, saying that he did not beat Nadal for the title so its 'specialness' (excuse my awful English) was diminished. Sour grapes if you ask me! Roger played out of his skin throughout that tournament and played amazing against Sweden's Robin Soderling in the final.

"In an era of specialists, you're either a clay court specialist, a grass court specialist, a hard court specialist....or you're Roger Federer."

I couldn't remember the entire match but I remember how I shouted for joy when he won and how I felt goosebumps on my skin seeing his reaction!
I really hope he gets to win the next Slams!

It was so emotional - the entire world cheering for one man to make his own history, and he did
Look how much it meant to him.
Yes, it really was, not just for him, but for many. Here is a poem that I'd written after his French Open, 2009 victory ----

Also, history books will always rate him above Pete Sampras because of the french open 2009

That's a fantastic poem
excellent choice of words and it really paints a complete picture of Roger. Cool that it rhymes so well too!!!
Actually I think it's rather unfair how people deem Federer as a bad clay courter. He really is second only to Nadal, who is the clay GOAT anyway!! I mean if not for Nadal, he would have won 4 more Roland Garros titles (2006-2008, 2011). And as for being all rounded, he has 4 Australian, 6 Wimbledon and 5 US Open titles, whereas Nadal has 1, 2 and 1 respectively, with 7 Roland Garros crowns. If you ask me, Nadal can never be considered too great a player becuase he is not really proven on the other surfaces!
