It seems to perturb me, why are people not understanding that Basel 2011 points will come off on 5th November, 2012?

So, as on 29th October, 2012, there will be no deduction of ATP Points, so what ever happens at Basel 2012, Roger Federer is assured of No. 1 ATP ranking on 29th October, 2012.

Frankly, not too many people understand that a tournament can be counted twice

& yes, I can understand how frustrating it can get, when you explain every thing & still
people ask the same question...

So, for every one asking, same tournament points can be counted twice if it gets re-scheduled.

As ATP is quite clear about deductions, points deduction is on a 52 weeks basis...

And so Roger racks up another record - The Most Points Dropped on one day - 3000. Under normal circumstances the most points dropped would be 2000, at the slams. With the new compressed end-of-year schedule, it will now be possible to drop 2500 if a player wins Paris and WTF back-to-back. But this year, with the changed schedule, as outlined above, it is a one-off situation that Basel, Paris and WTF are being dropped on the same day. And sure enough, clever Roger ensured he won all three last year, so that he could have this (dubious) record too.

ha ha, I won't like to give credit of this to Roger Federer :).. Thou, it has a great chance to be in Tennis Trivia for a long-2 time :).

Honestly, I believe ending the one week rest between Bercy Masters, 2012 & ATP WTF isn't such a wise decision.

Also, I wrote another article to demystify ATP Year-end Rankings and explain how Normal Tennis Rankings differ from Year To Date (Race to London) Rankings, here is the link of that -----

After Roger Federer's defeat to Del potro at the final of Swiss Indoors, Basel 2012, this is how the ATP Points of Top 4 will look like on 29th October, 2012

1. Roger Federer ---- 12,465 -150 points of Halle (Halle 2012 points have become uncountable for a week) =12315

2. Novak Djokovic ---- 11,970

3. Andy Murray ---- 7690

4. Rafa Nadal -- 6995 points

Yes, you read it correct, the points of Swiss Indoors, Basel 2011, Bercy Paris Masters, 2011 & ATP World Tour Finals 2011 will drop down on 5th November, 2012, for knowing the exact reasons, see this detailed article here.

For all of you who might be having doubts about double counting of ATP points of a tournament because of re-scheduling, I explained why Swiss Indoors, Basel points will be counted twice (2011 points & 2012 points for a week) in great details here.

Yes Roger has had a tremendous year and really socked it to those people who were writing him off in 2010. For him to end his reign as World Number 1 after this tournament at his home town is, I feel, particulary fitting. If from here on his does scale back the tournaments he participates in, who can blame him? Roger Federer will always be Tennis No 1 in my eyes

Roger has achieved far more than most other players and still plays a superb, athletic game without picking up serious injury problems. When people in the media cast him down after a loss, it makes me wonder what players like Murray, Djokovic, Nadal and DelPotro will be doing when they reach 31. Strikes me that the media are all too quick to forget Roger's achievements. It does annoy me to see they way they do that

I guess that is on Roger's mind as well that's possibly why he has skipped Paris. WTF winner will really be the icing on the cake for what has been a tremendous year.

Ranking update : As Federer will lose No. 1 ranking on 5th November, 2012, after Murray's defeat at Bercy Masters, 2012, its now 100% sure that Federer will end 2012 as #2.
