Now, that Federer has won the 2nd set vs Del Potro,




Federer will be #1 in Group-B irrespective of the fact if he wins the 3rd set or not & will face, Murray in Semis. (subject to Ferrer winning the match vs Tipsarevic).



& if Del Potro wins the 3rd set, he will be #2 in Group-B & will face, DJokovic in semis on sunday & in that case, David Ferrer will be out from the tournament. (subject to Ferrer winning the match vs Tipsarevic).




(Just in case, if Tipsarevic beats Ferrer, then Del potro will be No. 1 in Group-B as Del potro and Federer will both be on 2 victories & the rule states that if only two players are equal, the player who defeated the other will be the Group-1....)




If Del potro had lost the 3rd set , then for Ferrer to reach, Ferrer will need to beat Tipsarevic in the match either in 2 or 3 sets (the margin of victory won't matter in that case, just a victory will take Ferrer to semis).



Then, Federer will be #1 in Group-B & face, Murray in Semis.



& Ferrer would have been #2 in Group-B & would have faced Djokovic in Semis.



PS: Just in case, if Tipsarevic beats Ferrer, then Del potro will be No. 1 in Group-B as Del potro and Federer will both be on 2 victories & the rule states that if only two players are equal, the player who defeated the other will be the Group-1....

Now, that Del potro has won the match, he has reached the semi-finals for sure along with Roger Federer......




Who will Top the B-group will depend on outcome of match between David Ferrer and Janko Tipsarevic,



If Ferrer wins by any margin,




Federer will be #1 in Group-B & will face, Murray in Semis.



& if Tipsarevic wins the match vs David Ferrer (which looks unlikely because of Ferrer's form) Federer will be #2 in Group-B & will face, Djokovic in semis on sunday & in that case, Del potro will be the #1 of Group-B & will face Murray in the semis.

Only thing that remains to be seen is that will Federer or Del Potro will end the Group-B as No.1 ??

Just to explain u ATP rules a wee bit,

i. If only two players are on equal wins, then the player who won their head to head match in the World Tour Finals will be top ranked,

ii) If 3 players end on equal wins, then 1st thing to watch out is sets winning percentage, if sets winning % is equal, then games winning %.

The player with a higher winning set % is placed on top. Hope, it explains now

Currently, after Federer's defeat to Del potro,

Federer has won 5 sets and lost 2 sets, so a win % of 71%...

Del potro after defeating Federer in 3 setter has won 5 sets and lost 3 sets, thus, his set winning % is 62.5%..

If later today, Ferrer beats Tipsarevic in straight sets, then Ferrer would have won 4 sets in the entire WTF and lost 3 sets, thus Ferrer's winning % of set will only be 57%..

Hope, that explains now, why Ferrer is out from Semis race.

First semi is :

Djokovic vs Del Potro, starting 14.15 GMT




& 2nd semi final of World Tour Finals, 2012


Federer vs Murray starting time 19.45 GMT.




& an important, doubles semi between Leander/Stepanek vs Bhupathi/Bopanna at 12.00 pm GMT or 17.30 IST..

All the matches will be interesting today...n i m going to cheer for Delpo, Federer ofcourse and Leander/Stepanek respectively...

But then may the best ones win...

DelPo was on fire in the first set then he lost his legs by degrees. Hope this does not happen to Roger. It's tough playing top class matches back to back over two (hopefully three) days.
