My personal view about Twitter during and after a Roger Federer match
Intro
Alright, so there has been a lot going on during the past 24 hours and I really gotta write down some stuff here.
Please bear with my english and bear with some mistakes I make while writing but I just gotta write down what going on in my head right now.
So, yesterday was this match between my hero, my everything and my all Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Alright, already too emotionally involved... why? I never tweet while watching Roger. And what did I do yesterday? I put my Laptop in the living room, so that I could tweet and watch Roger play on my TV screen.
Rivalery
For those of you, who have been watching for a while ... you know the rivalery between the two of them. All those matches they played each other and this epic match they played in Wimbledon that broke my heart.... So be it, it's in the past, but back to what I wanna try to say... So, as I said - normally I don't tweet while watching Roger and I don't read tweets from other people I follow. But yesterday, everything was upside down and I did things I don't usually do.
Federer Fans on Twitter
I was so tense, when Roger came on court. I was tense when they started playing and I just wouldn't stop. There was one person on twitter who already predicted that Roger would lose hours and hours before the match had even started. All this negative vibes in my TL. I really coulnd't stand it and I had to unfollow that person. Of course, everybody can choose what they wanna write on twitter, but if you are in a twitter .. uhm .. let's call it "community" where a lot of followers follow your followers etc as well, you can read what they write each other as well.
So, we have the "Federer Fans" or the "Federer Family" or the "FedFans" or however we wanna call ourselves
Unfollow
So, after I already unfollowed that person the night before and set up my Laptop in front of the TV to keep checking the tweets while starting to watch the Semi Final between Roger & Rafa I was already kind of "What the hell?!" when I was reading some tweets.
But whatever, I wrote the stuff that was going through my mind while watching Roger and after he won the first set I wrote "jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" cuz Roger was shouting "yeahh" after he won it.
During the Match
So everything changed, Roger made way too many UE and it honestly couldn't go anywhere if he continued playing like that and let's face it. Rafa is crazy running and chasing after that ball when he's playing Roger. Who else can bring this ball back against Roger like Rafa? If you think it MUST be a winner against all the players on the tour, but - oh no wait!!! - there's still Rafa and - kabooooooooom that ball is retourned and Roger lost the point with Rafa hitting a winner.
So I read some tweets, but I couldn't deal with it, cuz people I know who support and admire Roger started writing stuff like "stupid" "fu**" etc.
What is going on?
So I was like "what is going on" ? How can a so-called Roger Federer Fan write stuff like that about this wonderful man and how dare you to do so? I just couldn't read anymore about what was going on on my TL and I wrote: "Twitter #offline #federer" and I went offline.
Game, Set and Match Nadal
I was watching the match and my heart hurt after Roger lost. Luckily I was alone at home and nobody had to see me. ( I don't wanna go into details, let's just say I wasn't doing fine) but I dealed with it on my own. After I had the courage to go back online and check my twitter account & started looking for pictures of the match.
So what I was reading was just ridiculous! People tweeting bad stuff about Rafael Nadal and I was like "Why am I following this person? How come, you can write such things about tennisplayers!?"
Tennis
Maybe my heart isn't only too emotionally involved in "only" Roger Federer but also in this beautiful sport called Tennis.
I mean - I just got me. This sport brings out so many emotions in me, I can't hardly describe it. But I never and I repeat that NEVER do write bad words about a tennis player on twitter, facebook or a blog.
Roger lost, he couldn't win all the big points he was supposed too and again, the number of unforced errors was just too much, but that doesn't make me go to Twitter and talk bad about Rafa. Those guys ARE Tennis, look at all they are doing for this sport, what they have achieved. I mean it's just incredible!
A man, his game and his aura
So, I'm really rethinking my twitter account. I'm just a woman from Switzerland, who fell in love with a man, his game and his aura. That love has been going on since many years and it will never stop. This man has helped me to understand and respect the game even more than he knows. So how can some of his fans go out and talk so bad? This world already is a bad place for a lot of people all over this planet. I don't think that I have to go into details here, just watch the news if you don't know what I mean.
So, what I did was congratulating Rafa on his win against "my" maestro on twitter, cuz for me that was the right thing to do.
I kept on reading my TL and I just couldn't deal with it. I had to unfollow more people, cuz I was so surprised to see them write what they write.
Love for the Game
Of course people do get tense, when they are emotionally invovled and yes, I do know that. I also know that people are different. I am not trying to change people's mind cuz of my post, I just wanna share my feelings and my thoughts that's it.
So, today it was Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray's Semi Final. And of course, my TV was on and I was watching the match. And why was I watching? Cuz I wanted to see a good Tennis match between World Number 4 and World Number 1.
Do I "like" those players? Honestly, no - not that much. But that comes from a progress of watching those two players over the years. Get to read news, watch their behavior on the court etc. It's not, that I have just decided not to like them just for fun, or because they just kicked out my favorite player from the tournament. So big up to Rafael Nadal, he beat Roger and I was sad, I still am but that does not give me the right to call this man any kind of censored words possible and share it with the world on twitter.
Spoiled?
There is enough bad stuff going on in this world. There's absoutely no reason to bring all this to twitter as well. We are people from all over the world and we are connected cuz we share the same interest and that is Tennis and Roger Federer. I don't need to spend time on a plattform hearing bad stuff, I really don't. It's a sport - sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
Please let us never forget what Roger has achieved in his career so far! From all the 16 Grand Slams he won so far, to all the records he broke and he's still an active player! We honestly have been spoiled by this man when it comes to winning! There was a period, when nobody got pass Roger (unless your name was Rafael Nadal and it was Roland Garros time).
So instead of blaming "the other player" for beating Roger and talk bad, why don't you just reflect on what Roger Federer, that amazing man from Switzerland, has achieved so far.
United as proud Roger Federer Fans
I wanna stay on Twitter, I really do. I met soooo many fantastic people through this amazing plattform. People from all over the world and our love and passion for this game and for Roger unites us! I mean, how wonderful is that? Let's enjoy it to the fullest for as long as we can and treat each other and treat all the player with respect. What better teacher for this than Roger Federer? No one, right?
I hope you understand what I was trying to say and you got my point. And yes, that is my point of view and nobody else's. Maybe you do agree with me and maybe you think that's just exaggerated. But, not for me. I've been to tennis tournaments and there's almost no better feeling than to sit in the middle of all those people loving tennis as much as I do and waiting for the matches to start, to clap for wonderful points the players play on the center court and just to be happy when your favorite player wins. To get outside and try to get a glimpse on all the players that are coming and going. To meet fellow fans in a restaurant and start a conversation about what you just saw etc. It's beautiful and that is how I want my twitter to be as well. I want to be surrounded by people loving the game and loving Roger Federer.
In the end...
In the end only kindness matters. I found that beautiful picture and I have to share it with you. So no matter how you dislike a certain player, or how angry you get cuz your favorite player has just lost a big match, in my opinion there is absolutely no need to curse the other player and to talk bad.
For me, it's certainly okay to say, that you don't like a player and that you can never wish him luck, but no need of bad talk.
Please be kind to one another, treat others the way you want to be treated and talk about others the way you want to be talked about....

Marina.
