Roger Federer won sportsman of the year award at Credit Suisse Sports Awards yesterday,while Olympic champion Nicola Spirig was declared sportswoman of the year.

Federer had earlier won this award in 2003,2004,2006 and 2007.


These awards include the participation of sports journalists and public,43.9% people voted for Federer who became quite emotional after the announcement of results.


"It's been a wish of mine to get here. I'm happy I made it and I wish we all can enjoy a great evening"
,Federer said after the win.


"There is probably nothing better than to get a standing ovation in Switzerland",said Federer.
"For me it was an incredible year, I could really achieve all my goals" he added.

PS : After the awards ceremony got over, Roger Federer immediately flew in a private jet to Dubai at 23:00 to meet Mirka Federer & his twin daughters (Charlene Riva & Myla Rose). That left many athletes including Nicola Spirig a bit disappointed as they wanted to take photographs with Federer. Nicola Spirig had also invited her husband Reto for a picture with Federer.

For all curious ones, Roger Federer flew straight to Zurich for 2012 Credit Suisse Awards from Bogota and then straight to Dubai, so, in a matter of 25 hours, he marked his presence in 3 continents, cool?

This illustrates why Roger Federer is so special and loved by so many people around the world. He puts himself out and makes an effort. He must have felt exhausted after all he has achieved in his South American Tour, yet he makes this detour to Zurich, for an award ceremony, where he was a contender for the title, before retuning home to his wife and family.

On the same evening, there was the Sports Personality of the Year ward taking place in London. Andy Murray was a contender for this title. He chose to stay in Miami where he is preparing for the Australian Open.......

I sincerely hope that Roger's efforts in recent weeks for the game of tennis, will bring rewards in success for him on the courts in 2013

As far as I could understand, Roger said that its an honor to be nominated in the top Swiss players. & he said, that getting a standing ovation was an unforgettable experience.


Also, he told that he will be leaving for Dubai to meet his family.

Well, it would have been very surprising had Federer not won the Swiss athlete of 2012 award. Thou, it really amazes me, when Swiss people question RF over his non-availability for Davis Cup or other swiss tournaments.



I think, he has played almost 11 years in Davis Cup, so, its high time, he takes a break from Davis Cup.
