#20269 Match Report, pics, video highlights of Roger Federer vs Alejandro Falla, Ger...

quotes from Federer's presser ------

Question: Congratulations. I wanted to ask you from a kind of London point of view. Aren’t you a bit bored of winning Halle that much? When are you going to come to Queens?

FEDERER: I will not come to Queens ever as long as it is in the same week because I have a contract here for life. So, I will always come and play here. I played in Queens in ’99 actually. That one time I lost 6:3 and 6:0 and never went back (laughs). That was my Queens experience. But it’s a nice tournament as well. You can’t have it all. It’s going to be the same week in the future too because they are both moving up from a 250 to a 500 series. They are going to keep the same week. So, I guess all the players are going to split between Halle and Queens in the future as well. But clearly I’m very pleased to go to London now for Wimbledon.

Q: In a tournament like this close to Wimbledon are you in a close touch with Stefan Edberg? Is he watching your games? Did he give you some tips like: play more at the net?

FEDERER: Well, he was here Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of this week and then he went back. I haven’t been really in touch with him since because I have Severin here, my coach. So, we were talking a lot how I should play. But clearly Stefan gave me a lot of input during practice and how he sees me playing. So, I’m trying to fulfil all the wishes of my coaches. I try to come up with the right playing style. And Stefan will be in Wimbledon starting in a few days and then we’ll spend three weeks together. Then, my coach will also join me later in the week but he’s gone back to Switzerland quickly. But I’m sure he was watching as much as he can.

#17228 Scenarios on who will be second man to qualify for semi-finals from Group-A a...

Posted by Vibhu batra on 07 November 2013 - 04:59 AM

So, scenarios in a quick nutshell

a) if Berdych wins vs Nadal, he surely qualifies for Semi-finals

b. If Berdych loses & Wawrinka loses, Berdych surely qualifies.

c) if Berdych loses & Wawrinka wins vs Ferrer (by any margin), Wawrinka qualifies.

As per round robin rules for WTF, if two players are equal in number of match wins, then the player who won their head to head will be at a higher rank in the group.

If 3 players are equal in number of matches won, then head to head isn't relevant, then sets won % is relevant, if sets won-lost % is equal, if sets won-lost % is equal, then number of games won-lost % & post that, number of points won-lost %.

For a detailed explanation on how players qualify for Semis from the round robin group stage, click here.

No where will we needed to see the sets or the games scenarios, just if Berdych wins in straight sets vs Rafael Nadal, Berdych will be #1 in the group & Nadal will be #2.

If Nadal wins just one set vs Berdych, he is sure to end #1 in his Group.

#17221 Scenarios on who will be second man to qualify for semi-finals from Group-A a...

Posted by Vibhu batra on 07 November 2013 - 03:53 AM

Now, here's how the Group standings look like after Tomas Berdych's win over David Ferrer-----

1) Rafael Nadal - qualified & will surely end as Number 1 in the group if he wins just 1 set against Tomas Berdcy.

2) Stan Wawrinka - currently with 1 win & 2-3 in sets or 40%

3) Tomas Berdych --- currently with 1 win & 3-2 in sets or 60%

4) David Ferrer--- 0 wins & 0-4 sets, even, if he wins the match vs Wawrinka in straight, he can get to a maximum of 2-4 or 33.33% & at worst, Tomas Berdych will gets to is 3-5 or 37.5%, so, unfortunately David Ferrer is out from the semis race.

Now, our scenarios are even more clear -----

(I) If Tomas Berdych beats Rafael Nadal in straight sets, Tomas Berdych will be the No. 1 in the group, Rafael Nadal will be No. 2, Stan Wawrinka will be #3, even if Wawrinka beats Ferrer in straight sets.

(ii) If Tomas Berdych beats Rafael Nadal 2 sets to 1,  Rafael Nadal will be the No. 1 in the group, Berdych will be No. 2 & Stan Wawrinka will be #3, even if Wawrinka beats Ferrer in straight sets.

(iii) If Rafael Nadal wins in straight sets or 2 sets to 1 vs Tomas Berdych, all Stan Wawrinka will need to do is to win vs David Ferrer to qualify for semis. Rafa Nadal will be #1 & Wawrinka will be #2 in the group...

(iv) If Berdych loses the match vs Rafael Nadal in straight sets & Wawrinka loses to David Ferrer in straight sets, then also Tomas Berdych will qualify for the semis & Wawrinka will miss out....

(v) Now, this last scenario is interesting or should I say, worth discussing as many people asked me to clarify ::::

If Berdych loses in straight sets vs Rafael Nadal, he will get to 3-4 or a set win % of  42.85%

& If Wawrinka loses against Ferrer 2 sets to 1, Wawrinka will also be on 3-5 or a set win % of 37.5%

& Ferrer will be at 2-5 or a % of 28.57%.

So, even, in this scenario, Berdych qualifies.

#16358 Breaking news: Roger Federer ends coaching relationship with Paul Annacone

Posted by Vibhu batra on 13 October 2013 - 03:14 AM

In a move that surprised every one, Roger Federer today announced on his official website that he has ended his coaching relationship with Paul Annacone.

Paul+Annacone+Internazionali+BNL+Italia+

In his official press release/announcement, Roger Federer stated,

"After a terrific 3 ½ years working together, Paul and I have decided to move on to the next chapter in our professional lives. When we started together we had a vision of a 3 year plan to win another Grand Slam title and get back to the number #1 ranking. Along with many other goals and great memories, these 2 main goals were achieved.

After numerous conversations culminating at the end of our most recent training block, we felt like this was the best time and path for both of us. Paul remains a dear friend, and we both look forward to continuing our friendship. I want to thank Paul for his help and the value he has added to me and my team."

1044621_555817254461894_441303106_n.jpg

Paul Annacone has been a part of Roger Federer's coaching team for almost 3 & a half years now

Paul Annacone wasn't present at Shanghai Masters where in Roger Federer lost in the 3rd round against Gael Monfils. Since then, a lot of our readers have been speculating if Federer & Annacone would split at the end of the season or not?

But, in a surprising move, Federer decided to split with Annacone with just 4 weeks left in 2013 Tennis calendar.

What might have caused the split between Paul Annacone and Roger Federer?

As, we all know, Roger Federer has a lot of respect for Annacone & even his announcement about the split is a testimonial to that.

Also, Paul Annacone has always praised Roger Federer & in one of the most recent interviews, Annacone had said, he pinches himself that he got the opportunity to work with Federer after having coached Sampras & Henman.

So, even thinking that the decision to split was taken because of some ego issues or some financial issues, would be 100% wrong.

As you all know, Roger Federer's ranking has fallen from No. 1 in the No. 7 since last Shanghai Masters. Also, this year has been one of the most mediocre years in Roger Federer's entire professional career.

So, Roger Federer might have felt its high time to do some thing different. That's why, the decision to split with Paul Annacone would have been taken.

Also, Roger Federer had decided to use a bigger 98 sq inch prototype Tennis racket during the two tournaments that he had played at Hamburg & Gstaad in July, 2013.

39d41a91a940d65ea2cb46aa3b9d7ef9_zpsb957

It is believed that Roger Federer had taken the decision to shift to the new bigger racket on the behest of Paul Annacone.

But, all of a sudden, Roger Federer decided that he will switch back to his old tried & trusted Wilson ProStaff 90' from Cincinnati Masters onwards till the end of US Open, 2013 & there after, he had stated that he will switch back to the prototype.

It needs to be added that for the first four days of practice at Cincinnati, Roger Federer had practiced with the new prototype 98 racket & from the 5th day, he decide to switch back to his old ProStaff 90 racket. Read that full story right here.

There are rumors going around that Paul Annacone wanted Roger Federer to continue with the new 98 prototype racket & felt that if the Swiss Maestro needs to gain his way back to the top, a bigger racket is must. So, this might be also one of the reasons that they both parted ways all of a sudden.

Who is likely to be Roger Federer's new coach?

At this point of time, its hard to mention any name. But, I feel that for this year, Roger Federer will not hire any new coach other than Severin Luthi who is already a part of Roger Federer's coaching team.

feddyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.jpg

Severin Luthi in picture is not only the Swiss Team's Davis cup captain but also a part of Roger Federer's coaching team for the last six years.

It needs to be mentioned that not many people know that Severin Luthiis a part of Roger Federer's coaching team since May, 2007. Not only is Severin Luthi the current Swiss Davis Cup captain, but, Luthi was himself a very good Tennis player.

Since summer 2007, Severin Lüthi (who will turn 38 on 5th January, 1976) has been almost constantly by Federer's side as he tours the world, advising him, studying his opponents, and even acting as occasional sparring partner.

As per a newsletter by Credit Suisse, At the age of 17, Lüthi was already a Swiss tennis champion, and in the main category. He left school to pursue a professional career in tennis and was a good all-rounder – though, by his own admission, without an exceptional winning stroke. On one memorable occasion back then, he beat Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten at the Orange Bowl in Miami, who was the same age as him, and went on to become three-time French Open champion.

What do you guys think? Will Federer hire a new coach or should he stick with only Severin Luthi at this point of time?

Also, for finding the answer to the most asked question- Can Roger Federer qualify for World Tour Finals, 2013?
